    City of Toronto Civic Award

In 2009, Seferian Design Group was retained by the City of Toronto as part of a multidisciplinary design team to create a unique streetscape within Liberty Village. The site included the streetscape block along King Street, bordered on one side by Jefferson Avenue and the other side by Atlantic Avenue.

    City of Toronto Civic Award

Seferian Design Group’s design started with a vision and drew on the industrial past of Liberty Village, but blended new modern, trendy aspects into the overall theme. The design included raised planters, mass plantings, decorative screens, paving patterns and two sculptural icons which anchor each end of the block.

Liberty Village King Atlantic Gateway Feature

The gateway sculpture was designed by Artist Michael Golland, a long-time member of the Liberty Village community. This public art installation was the final component of the King Atlantic Gateway project, an improvement program cost-shared by the Liberty Village BIA and the City of Toronto. Liberty Village now has an attractive, unique and welcoming entry from King Street. An entry that reflects this unique, historic and creative Liberty Village community.

Seferian Design Group was awarded a City of Toronto Civic Award for their work on the Liberty Village Gateway project.

  • City of Hamilton Urban Design & Architecture Awards – 2007

City of Hamilton Urban Design & Architecture Awards – 2007

Seferian Design Group were retained by the City of Hamilton to prepare detailed landscape plans for a 53-unit townhouse development on a greenfield site in the heart of the residential section of the new Meadowlands neighbourhood in Ancaster. McCallum Sather Architects and Johns Khes Planning Solutions were also a part of the consulting team.

The overall design created a village feel through the use of unit designs that minimize the impact of garages, emphasizing large windows, providing unique architectural elements, and having interesting end and corner units along the public street. Extensive landscaping including gateway features, decorative fencing, unique street lighting, and custom signage contributed to the village feel and enhancing the public realm. This project is a good example of how to design a higher density building type in context where single family homes predominate.

Clean & Beautiful City Appreciation Award

The City of Toronto retained the landscape architectural design services of Seferian Design Group to redevelop Percy Street Park near the future West Don Lands project. The development of the Park was conceived in conjunction with the City of Toronto, Mayor David Miller and the neighbouring community.

The park included gathering areas for residents, community garden plots for growing vegetables, shade, grass and public art. Graffiti was removed, garbage collected and the neighbours all participated in the process. Within weeks of breaking ground, the park was complete including features such as night lighting and an irrigation system. The entire project was completed at no cost to the residents or the City. In 2007, Mayor David Miller presented Seferian Design Group Limited with a Clean & Beautiful City Appreciation Award.
