  • SDG looks back on 2023 with pride

Reflecting on a remarkable year! From awards and accolades to enriching experiences and incredible projects, 2023 was a year of growth, recognition, and innovation for SDG. Our team’s dedication shone through with Brad Smith’s Alumni Volunteer Award and teaching venture, Haig Seferian’s impactful speeches, Allison Neuhauser’s ISA certification, and the arrival of talented Alyssa McDonald. We celebrated Vincent Fracchioni’s Brampton Urban Design Award and multiple wins at the Hamilton Urban Design Awards and Grands Prix Du Design. Witnessing the grand opening of the Burlington Public Library’s Reading Garden and the completion of the Hamilton Golf and Country Club’s patio enhancement and the rehabilitation of Waterloo Park filled us with pride. Our adventures took us to substantial projects like Casablanca Waterfront Park and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Entry Feature, not to mention the award-winning Gardens at Pillar and Post. Cheers to a year filled with achievements, growth, and impactful design! Here’s to more inspiration and success in 2024!

  • Haig joins a jury panel for the University of Guelph’s MLA program

Haig joined a jury panel for the University of Guelph’s MLA program, to assess the student’s first design studio. Renowned for his expertise in innovative and sustainable design, Haig brought invaluable insight as he joined the jury panel. In five weeks, the U of G students had to reimagine downtown Toronto’s Yorkville Park, a former parking lot built on top of the subway into an urban haven. Impressed by the students’ projects, Haig commended their creativity and thoughtful approaches towards transforming this blank canvas into a vibrant urban landscape.

  • SDG receives two 2023 Hamilton Urban Design Awards

SDG is thrilled to receive two Hamilton Urban Design Awards for our impactful projects – The Kirkendall Coach House and Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre. These projects stand as testaments to our commitment to enhancing Hamilton’s urban fabric. From the revitalization and enhancement of cultural spaces to the creation of modern functional dwellings, each project resonates deeply within the community. The Kirkendall Coach House preserves heritage while offering contemporary living solutions, contributing to the area’s character and livability. Meanwhile, the Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre, with it’s 470 seat Peller Hall, the Woortman Studio Theatre, and multiple rooms for art, film, theatre and dance, stands as a cultural hub, fostering creativity and engagement and enriching the city’s artistic landscape. We’re honoured to be recognized for projects that empower and enrich Hamilton’s diverse communities.

  • The Hamilton Golf and Country Club’s Patio Enhancement project is complete

    HGCC Panorama

As the project wraps up, we’re thrilled to share an update from the Hamilton Golf and Country Club’s (HGCC) Patio Enhancement project. Located in Ancaster, the HGCC has long been considered one of Canada’s top golf courses.

The project included the redevelopment of the upper terrace, complete with new natural stone paving, reclad kneewalls, and an outdoor serving area. A portion of the upper terrace has now been covered with a new canopy, which features lighting and heaters to extending the outdoor dining season.

The new lower patio level extends the Club’s ability to provide dining and seating areas for members and incorporates new kneewalls clad in brick and natural stone to match the exterior of the clubhouse. Look closely and you might be able to spot the granite HGCC logo!

The final transformation has been met with a great response from the Club’s membership!
